winter

Every year after Christmas I fall into a funk. I love Christmas so much that I get what I call the Post-Christmas Blues once it’s over. What always gets me out of my funk is a good movie marathon. Being the seasoned veteran that I am, I’ve created a cold weather movie marathon so you, too, can beat those Post-Christmas Blues!

Frozen (2013)

Because who doesn’t love it? And because what marathon isn’t complete without a Disney movie. Frozen is the perfect movie to melt your cold bluesy heart. The story of two sisters who learn what being sisters really means.

Frozen (2010)

This story is very different from the Disney cartoon.  It is about three teenagers who get stuck on a ski lift after the ski resort decides to close early because a storm is moving in. This movie is ice cold and might give you some nightmares, but it is totally perfect to get your mind off of packing up the Christmas decorations.

Dreamcatcher (2003)

This movie is spooky and cold, cold, cold! It’s the story of four friends with special powers on a hunting trip that turns science fiction! Be ready for lots of snow and parkas. Brrrrr!

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005)

Narnia has been locked in winter for 100 years under the rule of the White Queen. As the Pevensie children travel through the wardrobe to Narnia, you might just want your own coat to bundle up in as you watch this adventure develop.

The Shining (1980)

For another spooky, snowy flick, check out The Shining. If you haven’t seen it, you really should, if just for the sake of your movie education. The movie follows a writer who begins to unravel when he takes a caretaker position at an isolated hotel. This movie is best watched with a cup of hot coco to warm your insides as you journey to icy, isolated Colorado.

Happy Feet (2006)

After The Shining, something as upbeat and sweet as Happy Feet will be perfect. It’s the story of a penguin who sticks out from his flock, so he breaks out on a journey to find himself.

Balto (1995)

Balto is based on the true story of a dog who helped save children by getting medicine to isolated Nome, Alaska. This story is not totally historically accurate, but it is still a cute animated feature that pays homage to Balto and his incredible story.

Hot Tub Time Machine (2010)

This fun comedy takes friends back in time to a certain snowy night at a ski resort. The friends must relive the night and not change anything or risk the consequences of messing with time. This movie is sure to melt your troubling blues away.

Make sure you have plenty of blankets as you check out these flicks. This wintry list will surely warm, laugh, and scare your blues away. I plan on piling on the layers myself as I curl up with some hot chocolate, extra marshmallows.
