A Prisoner of War by Hersh

A dream
Kept captive
In the forgotten corners of my soul
Cries and screams
For its innocence
Pleads and begs
For justice
It desires to fly
To be unleashed into the world
It fills the empty void of my heart
And asks me to let it go
Except I can’t
For I too am a dream
Kept prisoner
In someone else’s psyche
And If I had the key to freedom
I’d have let it fly
