Ink by Neha Agarwal

her grandma said to her
“all the stars in the sky
can fit into
your beautiful smile.
never stop smiling.”
so the girl drew
the constellations
into her dimples

her mother said to her
“some people
will look at you
like you are the sun
and some will not.
I want you to focus on
the ones who do.”
so the girl drew
sunlight
from her heart
to her fingertips

her father said to her
“even when you feel
the weight of the moon
on your shoulders
be happy
because you know
someone somewhere
is having the best day
of their life.”
so the girl drew
moonlight
into her tears

and she drew and she drew
until she was covered in ink
and everyone saw
the stars in her smile
the sun in her heartbeat
and the moon in her soul
