I’m sure you are all familiar with the Charlie Hebdo tragedy that happened in France a few days ago. The #JeSuisCharlie hashtag has spread around the world with enormous speed, and the whole world is trying to bring attention to this horrible act of violence.

Today, I as a Ukrainian citizen want to tell you about a different, but similar act that has just occurred. Today a bus in Ukraine was attacked by Russian-backed insurgents. Twelve people died, and many are in hospitals. I’m sure you have all heard about the current state of Ukraine. People die every day. Today was not an exception.

Today the people of Ukraine are asking for your help. All they want to do is to organize a unity march on social media, using the hashtag: #JeSuisVolnovakha. Volnovakha is the place where the tragedy happened. Why is this hashtag a reference to the Charlie Hebdo incident? The same number of people were killed — the same number of innocent lives taken — and now there’s the same cry out for help and awareness. We want to let the world know, and every little hashtag is a big step in the right direction and an enormous show of support.

Will you join our march?
