Metamorphic Bond by Erika Parker

One knee touches
the ground and two
bodies intertwine
in holy matrimony, laying
one bone on top of
the other to build
a foundation.

His ribs are woven
into her spine, and
her fingers engulf
the overflowing rivers
that wrap around his
waist, pulling him
under the soil.

Erika Parker is a recent graduate of Salisbury University, where she received her B.A. in English. Her work has appeared in The Scarab. She now lives in Southern Maryland, but hopes to someday move to NYC.
