Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Germies!  Here are a few fun facts we bet you didn’t know.

  • Saint Patrick was English (born in Britain around 350 A.D.), and his official color is actually blue, not green.
  • The chance that you will ever find a four-leaf clover is 1 in 10,000.
  • Ireland is snakeless due to the ice age, not St. Patrick.  Learn more about why Ireland has only one indigenous reptile here.
  • The Celtic harp is the national symbol of Ireland.  No other country has a musical instrument as its symbol.
  • The custom of wearing green on St. Patrick’s day arises from the superstition that leprachauns wouldn’t be able to see those wearing green clothing.
  • St. Patrick’s given birth name was Maewyn Succat.  Try saying “Happy Maewyn Succat Day” three times fast!
