Stolen Stars by Neha Agarwal

she experienced
high highs
low lows
and when she was happy
she didn’t smile
she sparkled
when she was sad
she didn’t cry
she cracked
the other boys and girls
feared the
darkness under her eyes
the scars on her body
so they beat her
with words
producing blood
that no one could see
and every time
they hit her
she stole a star from the night
until eventually
there were no more stars
left in the sky
and she could no longer see
the light
so she jumped into
the darkness
and the other boys and girls
filled with guilt
about the cracked girl
who just wanted to
