Female activist Bree Newsome is being called a hero by some because she took down the Confederate flag at the South Carolina state capitol. While there are two sides to every story and to the Confederate flag controversy, I admire Bree Newsome’s actions. What I admire most is that she stood up for what she believed was right, and she was completely ready to go to jail for it. She was tired of waiting for the flag to be taken down, so she took a step toward doing something, fully aware of the consequences for her actions. Not once did she lash out in anger at the policemen who were talking to her and eventually arresting her. She did not physically resist arrest, and she did not argue or debate about why she shouldn’t have to go to jail. She knew the consequences of her actions, and she nobly and calmly accepted those consequences once she had completed her task, quoting scripture as she was taken away the by police.
